  • Denmark, rational, civilised

The Killing - economic context:
  • Denmark - financial crisis in 2007 - the killing reflects the lack of solidarity as society falls apart.
  • PSB budget was so low that only one tv show per season is funded.

  • women - balance between 'mum vs work' - leaves fiancee to work, sends son away and puts work first, feels the pull, reflects social reality of women roles in Denmark.
  • Family is important to the Larsen's. The Larsen's are working class, family is more important.
  • Sarah is middle class so family is less important, seen in the scene with her son in the car. 
  • Gender equality - In 2007 Denmark 8th in the world (Sweden was 1st)
